Fantasy Faire 2011 News

Day one of Fantasy Faire was a raging success and thanks to the support of the Second Life community has managed to raise more than USD$1600, that brings the total so far to USDL$1.62 Million, that is over $6500 USD.  This is a excellent start to the 2011 Fantasy Faire.

This is great for Relay For Life and The American Cancer society.

Viewer 2 moves closer to mass appeal

Word reaches me that Viewer 2 is moving closer to having features that will make it far more appealing for the masses. One of the points I’ve raised before about Viewer 2 is that it doesn’t have enough in it to make people want to switch over from viewer 1 based viewers. Media on a prim doesn’t do it, the sidebar doesn’t do it, land sales search certainly doesn’t do it. Inviting people to groups? Nil points. Search in general? Nil points?

So what can viewer 2 offer that makes people want to use it? This thread over at SL Universe has the answer, the latest Snowstorm development download has a feature called Avatar physics, what does this mean? Jiggling boobies are coming to a viewer near you soon.

I think LL need to look at this again and encourage other kind of content to be sold via their marketplace. I’m sure there are legal issues that would need to be ironed out, but with a list of carefully selected partners, LL could offer some items that aren’t digital only.

What are you talking about Ciaran? I hear one of you ask, well put it this way, I’m going to use Adobe as an example again, purchasing Adobe Photoshop from the Second Life Marketplace might well be something people want to do, they come to Second Life, they want to create, they learn that Adobe Photoshop is a useful tool, they purchase Adobe Photoshop from the marketplace, Linden Lab get commission and Bob’s yer uncle!
