AcousticEnergy Nitely

AE n Jez“I will hold you like a melody;
Sing each word into your soul;
Breathing in your skin, you speak to me;
And I cry”
AE

I’ve seen and heard AcousticEnergy Nitely perform before, but recently I was able to go listen and watch AE “let his hair down” for lack of a better way to describe his show that night….A friend tp’d me to where AE was singing and the first thing I saw pop on my screen was “Ae has the most sexiest voice in sl” (copy, pasted).  So, being the woman I am…..of course I paid close attention.  I heard this sweet male voice….with just a hint of an accent (Scottish, I believe) and decided to save the rest of this commentary until I finished the interview, which follows.

AcousticEnergy Nitely first started messing with music and the guitar as a teenager.  He would strum a 12 string Yamaha guitar that belonged to his buddy, Rob Wier, and listen to the sounds he could make.  His mother put on lay-a-way, his first 6 string Honer guitar which, with the help of his friend Rob, he learned to play basic guitar.  AE was into writing poetry at this point in his life and though he may not have known it at the time, had started his song writing career also.   Such originals as Rise and Breathe On Me Continue reading “AcousticEnergy Nitely”

bFlat Unplugged

InterviewI had the opportunity to sit down and chat with bFlat Unplugged at Route 13, for a candid talk about his presence in SL.  A Blues/Jazz performer, whom I first saw perform in this YouTube video then live at “Sweet Whispers”, which is quickly becoming the most happening venue in SL.

I asked bFlat when he first knew he had THAT talent…where he could take his voice and make women weak in the knees.  (Ladies, just listen once and you will understand what I mean.)  He has that deep, earthy resonounce, that is sultry and whispery soft all at the same time, kind of voice that makes women melt just to listen to, add that to music and, well……yes you’ve got it..  He has a unique talent of bringing Soulful blues and that hint of New Orleans jazz together and just makes you want to get up off your chair and move your feet!

bFlat actually Dj’d for a short time, in 1st life where he learned voice control techniques to help his voice “presence” be known.   Other than singing in the shower, along with the radio, or humming, he didn’t actually start to sing live until around 1995, where he was encouraged by a friend, singer / musician / songwriter, Phyllis Lanier, to get up on onstage at several of her shows to sing live, in Biloxi, MS.  THAT was the beginning of his singing career. In 1996, he had his 1st exposure to karaoke, and in 1998 after moving to Arizona, he started singing regularly in karaoke bars.

He got his first computer in the year 2000, and was introduced to virtual singing in 2003-2004 on MIRC…where some friends heard him and introduced him to PalTalk………where some friends heard him and introduced him to (lucky for us) SecondLife. Continue reading “bFlat Unplugged”

Facebook won’t eat your children

As much as I dislike Facebook, the company that is, it needs to be said that Facebook isn’t going to eat your children, run off with your wife or burn you to death whilst you’re questing in the Wetlands, as Deathwing did to me last night!

There’s nothing inherently wrong with the concept of Facebook, it’s the practices of the company that make it an area of debate and some of those practices are not comfortable viewing, this is why when Blizzard wanted everyone to use their real names on the forums, there was a backlash and complaints to privacy bodies, because Facebook goes beyond your circle of real life friends and neighbours and that’s where the issues start, hence why Facebook have been in talks with the German authorities regarding privacy settings on their friend finder feature, as reported by AFP here.

Over at New World Notes, Hamlet Au is talking of how Second Life was once considered the social networking platform of the future and how Facebook has passed it in spectacular fashion. There’s an interesting video there from 2006 featuring Robin Harper, who has been working for Playdom since November, a company who specialise in Facebook games. Moving Back

So after around three and a bit years of Nobody Fugazi’s very generous hospitality it looks as if Your2ndplace.com is coming to an end, the reasons for this are basically that Nobody Fugazi no longer has a Second Life presence and therefore after seeing that he was pondering on what to do with the site I contacted him to say that as it’s only usually me who blogs there that he should concentrate on his own projects.

I have hosting, as you can see, I also have hosting I’ve not been using much, as you can see. This site was where my Second Life blogging all started so it’s only sensible to resurrect it now and I also have other blogs which I should be posting on more regarding my own inworld ventures.

Nobody Fugazi has been a more than generous host, allowing us to blog for free on his site despite his lack of logging into Second Life and therefore not having much interest in that particular virtual world, I am very grateful for the opportunity to blog there that Nobody Fugazi presented me with. The Digital Revolution

A post by Hamlet Au over at New World Notes, refers to an interesting, but off base in my opinion, article by Edward Castronova over at Terra Nova. Basically Edward Castronova ponders whether people spending more time online has the potential to be an important factor in a real world recession. The answer of course, is yes it does, but not for the reasons Edward Castronova seems to cite.

I’m not even going to attempt to get into a discussion about Keynsian economics, I’m not an economist. However, the Edward Castronova article does mention Keynsian economics, so if that’s your bag, I recommend you read the full article, I’m going to look at this from a different angle, where I feel Mr Castronova is somewhat missing the point is when he says things like:

“People who spend time online don’t have to worry about what they are wearing. Suppose that some percent of a given day can be spent in pajama’s, the rest must be spent in decent clothes. For decent clothes, you need a whole and varied wardrobe. For PJ’s, you need a few comfy ones. Now increase the amount of time that can be spent in PJ’s. The demand for decent clothes falls, if ever so slightly. The internet allows us to do all kinds of stuff in our PJ’s – so it must have an ever so slightly dampening effect on the market for fashion.” Continue reading “The Digital Revolution”
