On April 12th 1961 Yuri Gagarin, a Russian Cosmonaut, took the spacecraft Vostok into Outer Space. Twenty years later, April 12th 1981, NASA’s first Space Shuttle was launched. Celebrations of these events take many shapes and forms.
They are planning a whopping five hours of celebrations starting at 3pm SLT today.
The event launches (sorry couldn’t resist) at the International Spaceflight Museum in Second Life :
- 3:00-4:00 pm – Dance to our “Space Filk & More” audio stream.
- 4:00-5:00 pm – DJ Aristippus spins space-themed tunes and songs of the Space Age.
Then the party moves on to The Sagan Planetarium in Second Life.
The schedule at The Sagan Planetarium for the after-party is :
- 5:00-6:00 pm – DJ Tekkie
- 6:00 pm until sometime before the heat death of the universe – DJ Tobi.
Suitable attire is encouraged but not required and freebies will be available.
Meanwhile in Kitely, events are scheduled to take place later this month, on Friday April 21st. in an event entitled Yuri’s Night, Earth Day and Grand Opening of the International Spaceflight Museum in Kitely!
The event will take place 5:00pm – 6:00pm PDT (That’s the same as SLT) and the event blurb tells us :
Please join us to celebrate Yuri’s Night, Earth Day, and the Grand Opening of the International Spaceflight Museum’s facility in Opensim, on the Kitely grid! Our 2×2 region offers us twice the space of our facilities in SL, and we have a number of exhibits on display here already. Performances and tours. Hypergrid accessible at hop://grid.kitely.com:8002:ISMuseum
Please note that you can visit part of the International Spaceflight Museum in Kitely right now, by going to grid.kitely.com:8002:ISM2
The Hypergrid accessible address for the party on April 21st is currently restricted access.
If you have never been to Kitely or Opensim then there’s a handy guide for how to enter Kitely virtual worlds here : https://kitely.atlassian.net/wiki/display/doc/How+to+Enter+Kitely+Virtual+Worlds
You will need to have an account, but they are free to create and if you’re using a viewer such as the Firestorm Opensim Viewer then it’s extremely easy to select a different grid to login to.
Most of all though, if you do attend these events, have a lot of fun!
