Inara Pey, You Should Have Stayed At Home Yesterday

When I was a lad in Second Life, I often wondered why they kept talking about Neverwinter Nights, until I realised NWN in Second Life was New World Notes. However for me, NWN will always be Neverwinter Nights, whereas NWN in Second Life terms will always be Hamlet over at New World Notes, unless it’s a post by Iris Ophelia, in which case it will always be Iris Ophelia over at New World Notes. Along the same lines that MOTD will always be Match Of The Day!

Where am I going with this, well Inara Pey of Living In A Modemworld fame, has been voted by New World Notes readers as their favourite Second Life related blog, excluding New World Notes, which wasn’t eligible to be voted for.

I’ve often thought of Inara Pey as the rich man’s Ciaran Laval, well written, grammatically on the ball, informative, proof read, but by a girl in girl’s clothing, unlike myself as an evil drow wizard in evil drow wizard clothing, often mistaken for a girl for some bizarre reason.

I had started writing Inara’s victory speech  “Friends, Romans, Minions, all hail me or I’ll launch Rocket Ajax” but she went and wrote her own! Inara’s blog is a very worthy read, indeed it’s my first stop off point when I’m looking to read other blogs. Other people will have their own favourite blogs and that’s good, we don’t want to live, even in a virtual world, where everyone has the same tastes, that would be Stepford Life, rather than Second Life.

I can still recall the first time I met Inara inworld, I’d been travelling in a fried-out combie, on a hippie trail, head full of zombie. I met a strange lady, she made me nervous, she took me in and gave me breakfast .. oh wait wrong song!

So congratulations to Ms Pey, it’s good to see some recognition for her blog from readers and that her efforts to keep the Second Life community informed aren’t in vain. However some will give Inara the bum’s rush, as they do Hamlet. Which brings us nicely onto Drew Carey and his Second Life avatar in the shower after a hard day’s teleporting, which you can view here! They say a picture can say a thousand words, that is going to be one popular tweet!

  1. NWN? Pffft. I’m more interested to see what favorite blogs would appear on a poll of Inara’s readers. I’m sure that it would be a very short and authoritative must-have list.

For example, I don’t consider Daniel to be essential reading, unless you’re looking for an enthusiastic collector of news from around the grids without any actual value or investigation added.

But, they – that’s me. I’ve got my interests and time-budget for reading, right? Others look for fashion, gadgets, nitty-gritty server updates, firsthand perspective of a marketplace store owner, or deranged rants of an angry land baron.

    1. Indeed, there’s only so much time in the day and fashion blogs are not my thing but they’re very popular. I would imagine most people only look at a handful of blogs on a regular basis but hey, horses for courses.

I’m enjoying lately widening my horizons too, such as the seanchai library, thanks for that heads up.

  2. Thank you, my dearest Lord of Dee.

I admit I was gobsmacked and flattered (read: edging on weepy) when Shug Maitland pointed me to NWN and the result. Not, as I’ve said on my blog, because I came first in a poll; but honestly because people took the time to vote for Modemworld.

That really does mean a awful lot to me.

Seanchai is well worth time, as is Storyfests SL.
