Izzy Wizzy Let’s Get Busy

Before Jezebel and I go Relay For Life crazy, I thought I’d blog about abandoned land in Second Life. I was pondering the other week about the sheer amount of abandoned land in one of the mainland sims I have land in, some of it was set for sale but plenty of it wasn’t.

I found a plot I liked, my land didn’t border it on three sides but it was adjacent to plenty of my land, but alas it was merely owned by Governor Linden, not set for sale. I decided to chance my arm and put in a support ticket anyway. However I had heard nothing back, which was frustrating as I could make use of this land. Then today I received a response.

Izzy Linden had set the land for sale to me, at L$1 per metre it’s a tad overpriced these days but for me, for land adjacent to my other holdings it was a bargain, so I purchased said plot. I don’t want to cause any problems for the support team but if you have spare tier and have land adjacent to your plot abandoned, then it might be worth putting in a ticket to expand your holdings, extra prims are always useful.

I would prefer a better system for advertising abandoned land and allowing people to quickly claim it, support tickets aren’t ideal and really support should be dealing with more important matters. Long ago I said I’d happily sign up to a system that notified me when land was set for sale in certain mainland sims, the same goes for abandoned land, Linden Lab should inform interested parties and neighbours, there are plenty of folk who would add extra parcels to their holdings if they knew they were available and could quickly get hold of them.

However I am very pleased that Izzy was so very polite in helping me with my request, it’s much appreciated.

  1. Just had a near-identical experience – submitted a ticket about adjacent abandoned land but after a week I’d heard nothing. Got onto live chat today and the matter’s been escalated and hopefully I’ll get the same result as you – but you’re totally right about support tickets being less than ideal.

You’d think they’d make more effort when there’s someone actually interested in owning more mainland – we’re an increasingly rare species of Resident these days! 🙂

    1. it really should be easier to do this, I know we might not be spending more but if we use the land surely that’s better than seeing lots of abandoned parcels.

      1. It took another week of waiting but finally they got around to making the abandoned land I’d enquired about available. Now if only I could remember what I wanted it for in the first place…
